PM Surya Ghar: common questions
Who pays the subsidy, and when?
The central government pays it by Direct Benefit Transfer to your bank account, typically 30–45 days after DISCOM inspection and commissioning. You pay the vendor for the system; the subsidy then reimburses part of that cost.
How much is the subsidy?
₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the 3rd kW, capped at ₹78,000 for systems of 3 kW and above. For housing societies and resident welfare associations the portal lists ₹18,000 per kW for common facilities, including EV charging, up to 500 kW (at 3 kW per house); that limit includes individual rooftop plants installed by residents.
Which vendor should I select on the portal?
SOLAR CONNECT. Choose the name exactly as it appears in the Registered Vendors list. Residential subsidy projects are contracted, invoiced and commissioned under this name.
Is a battery or EV charger covered?
For individual homes, the central rooftop subsidy applies to the grid-connected solar system only: battery and EV-charger incentives are shown only once verified. For housing societies, the portal's group-housing subsidy covers common facilities, including EV charging.
What is the scheme target date?
The scheme aims to reach one crore households by March 2027. This target is not an assurance of an application closing date. Surveys, KSEB approvals and inspections take time, so starting early is sensible. Check pmsuryaghar.gov.in for current application rules and dates.
Will my bill go to zero?
Energy charges can reduce to zero where rooftop space allows a system sized to full consumption; KSEB fixed charges continue to apply.
Can I finance the system?
Bank loans are available through lenders; terms depend on the lender. Ask us at consultation.
